A Staged Reading of
THE DARK HEART OF DOOLEY STEVENS by Francis Gercke
Directed by Hannah Meade
Featuring JESSICA JOHN & MJ SIEBER
Monday November 27th at 7:00pm
A Second Story from the Mind of Francis Gercke
In a barren desert in the spooky Southwest, Dooley Stevens sets out on a quest to rescue his long-time love – Cindy Blank – from a lifetime of poor decisions. There’s only one problem. Cindy isn’t in distress, she isn’t in need of rescue, and the only poor decision she ever made was Dooley.
“Gercke has said he based The October Night of Johnny Zero on an incident from his own childhood. If so, it’s hard to imagine what other wildly imaginative stories he’ll plumb from his past for his future plays.” — Pam Kragen, The San Diego Union Tribune

WITCHLAND by Tim Mulligan
Directed by Andrew Oswald
WHAT’S WITCHLAND ABOUT?
Equal parts horror, comedy, and cautionary fable.
Leave your troubles behind and laugh in terror as you enter the immersive world of…WITCHLAND.
When gay couple Jared and Van pull up stakes in Seattle, WA, and move with their daughter to the small town of Richland, WA, it’s difficult to know what’s real and what’s illusion. Is it a nagging cough or radiation poisoning? Is it small town charm or the local lore come to life? Is it an alcohol-induced delusion or is the neighbor next door really a sorceress of the dark arts?
Pssst!….What if we told you that elements of this story are true?
The story of Witchland is based upon the author’s experiences growing up in Richland, a small town in Eastern Washington — deemed “the most toxic place in the Western Hemisphere.” A witch, a mysterious reappearing pile of sticks, a baby graveyard, and an illness plaguing the entire town are only a few of the eerie truths revealed in this one-of-a-kind world premiere.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? was a smash hit when it was released in 1962. It earned five Academy Award nominations and was responsible for revitalizing the careers of two of Hollywood’s most famous and accomplished actresses, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Both Academy Award winners, the movie work for Davis and Crawford had dried up since they had reached a certain age. The success of the film led each to a busy second phase of their careers in mostly B movies which kept them working and in the public eye until their deaths.
The pairing of legendary actresses Bette Davis and Joan Crawford captured the public’s imagination before the film was even released. Rumor had it that they had always been bitter competitive rivals, much like the Hudson sisters in the story, and everyone wanted to see how much fur would fly in the completed film.
The success of the film inspired a new sub-genre of horror some have referred to as the grand dame horror film.

SHOWGIRLS
February 27th, 2017 at 7pm
Paul Verhoeven’s 1995 stripper fiasco, SHOWGIRLS, is almost equally reviled as an over-the-top, camp, trash-film as it is celebrated as a legitimate, cult-following masterpiece.
Satire or not, sharp social critique or campy exploitation film (and who’s to say it can’t be both?), SHOWGIRLS is a kitschy onslaught of full-blown mayhem and a bizarro spectacle to behold.
